Tips:

smoker

TIP Using the smoker: Before entering the hive smoke inside the entrance lightly to disarm the guard bees. This way they are less likely to attack you. Do not oversmoke the hive or all the bees will fly out when you open. Each colony reacts differently so it is about getting to know the character of your bees.

hive beetle

TIP Pest Control: Hive beetle and mites. If your hive has these pests it can deter the bees and limit honey production. They can also make your bees abscond. Get some tobacco leaves and put them in your smoker. Smoke your hive thoroughly at the entrance. After some time the beetles will run out the entrance. This is your chance to kill them.
